The Great British Story: A People's History The Great British Story at Ickworth House, Suffolk
Despite chilly temperatures and grey skies, around 2,000 visitors joined our ´óÏó´«Ã½ Great British Story event at Ickworth House, Park and Gardens on Sunday, May 26th. The Georgian National Trust property offered more history than usual by hosting experts from across the region in the famous Rotunda, including Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service, the Cambridgeshire Association for Local History and Norfolk Record Office. Over in the West Wing our panel discussions went down a storm. Featuring Michael Wood, presenter of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two series, surnames expert Professor Kevin Schürer, University of Cambridge archaeologist Dr Carenza Lewis and The One Show’s Joe Crowley, the panellists put their knowledge to the test in ‘A Question of History’. There were some interesting rounds of ‘Call My Bluff’ with mystery artefacts and the audience had plenty of questions too. Outside, costumed re-enactors from the 95th Napoleonic Rifles welcomed visitors and really brought the past to life. Thanks to all our history partners, panellists and the National Trust for a full-day of historic discovery in Suffolk.
