The change from a deep river valley to a ria introduces the idea of how visual evidence can be found in present day landscapes. A look at evidence from tidal measurements, coral loss and submerging islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The causes of this sea level rise are discussed - melting of polar ice, thermal expansion of the oceans and water from melting mountain glaciers.
