Young jazzers with a New Album
A selection of the best in jazz music.
The National Youth Jazz Orchestra recorded a new album at the end of May. Bill Ashton, who started NYJO in 1965, has relinquished most of the band leading duties and NYJO stalwart and alumnus, Mark Armstrong has taken it on. Mark is a Jazz Professor at the Royal College of Music. There鈥檚 a track from the new album. We hear a version of an old tune from both Fats Waller and Shorty Rogers plus a Duke Ellington composition played by the Duke together with Louis Armstrong and a choice selection of sidemen. Nancy Wilson appears twice and there鈥檚 a track from a new album by the Hot Club of Detroit plus a short chat with Karin Sharp about her chosen instrument.
