Two Versions of Ellington鈥檚 Sunrise
A song from Ellington鈥檚 Liberian Suite sung by Al Hibbler and the same from Frank Sinatra
We have two versions of Duke Ellington鈥檚 I Like The Sunrise from his Liberian Suite. One by Frank Sinatra and the other by Al Hibbler, both with the Ellington orchestra recorded 21 years apart. In fact, there鈥檚 a ducal theme running through the programme with another Ellington composition as part of the jazz festival which sprung up in the late fifties. There鈥檚 a Modern Jazz Quartet example of their homage to the Duke as well as offerings from Oscar Peterson, Trummy Young, Benny Carter and John Coltrane.
