Reaction over 20% cuts to mental health services

500 jobs could go in cuts to mental health services across Suffolk and Norfolk. The NHS needs to make 20% worth of savings in this area over the next four years.

In the news hour from 5pm, 500 jobs are to go in mental health care across Suffolk and Norfolk. The NHS has to make 20% savings in this area over the next four years. It says services will be reorganised to make them more efficient. Foz gets the thoughts of the union Unison and Suffolk Mind.

A Suffolk housing association is consulting over changes to five of the county's sheltered housing schemes. They include Beetons Lodge in Bury St Edmunds, Erskine Lodge in Great Whelnetham and Churchill Close in Clare. Havebury says a decline in demand for the services means building new flats and refurbishing old bedsits may be the way forward. Foz asks Philip Sullivan, Havebury's Director of Operations, where the current residents of these sheltered housing schemes fit into all this.

A number of Suffolk towns are to receive 拢10,000 to spruce up their high streets. The initiative is a second chance for places which missed out on funding from the Portas Pilot scheme. The cash will be used to set up Town Teams which will work to bring customers back to their shops and services. Foz talks to Sharon Brown, the Town Centre Manager of Stowmarket, one of the towns benefiting from the grant.

In the first hour from 4pm, there's nothing like a dame of course and in the first hour of Drivetime Dame Taffy Trott pops in to see Foz. This particular Dame will be treading the boards in Sleeping Beauty, this winter's rock'n'roll panto at the New Wolsey in Ipswich.

In the music hour from 6pm, there's some T-Rex unplugged as two members of T.Rextacy preview their forthcoming acoustic show at Sudbury's Quay Theatre. Also David Booth is In Session and in conversation.
