Catching the copycat
Plagiarism is when someone takes information from a source and puts it into their work without acknowledging the original author. The internet has added to the problem by making it easier to 'copy and paste' information. Playing a huge role in stamping out plagiarism is sophisticated software that can detect when a student has used work that isn't their own. We conduct an experiment to test the software's effectiveness, by asking Claire, a year 10 student, to deliberately copy extracts from ten different online sources for her essay on Julius Caesar.
