Christianity in Ethiopia
Coptic Christianity is one of the oldest forms of the Christian faith. Presenter Reverend Peter Owen-Jones visits a Coptic Christian community in Ethiopia and sees their 1,000-year-old church, hewn out of solid rock. A worshipper is immersed in a deep pool and the priests pray at the start of the festival of St Michael, using chants in the ancient Ge'ez language. The presenter asks the priest about how their faith has survived through times of famine. A feast of bread and beer is celebrated in preparation for a night of prayer. Next morning sacred relics are brought out to bless the congregation as part of a joyous celebration.
