Desert landscapes

Presenter Andy visits Death Valley and explains what makes up this desert landscape. Sand, made up of tiny rock particles, is blown down the valley and shaped into dunes by wind. Two million years ago this desert was filled with water. When it dried out a crust of salt remained.

Death Valley is thought to be the hottest place on Earth. Deserts can be salty, rocky or sandy, with little rainfall. Not much can survive in these conditions.
