The impact of coffee bean farming on the Mexican rainforest

Mexico is one of the largest coffee producers in the world. Los Ocotes in the Sierra Madre mountains is an important coffee growing region. However, coffee bean production comes at a cost. Natural vegetation is cut down to make way for coffee plants and trees are burned down to make way for new crops - thus threatening the rainforest. We follow the Hernandez family, who have switched to organic methods to lessen the environmental impact of coffee production. The process of coffee production is explained and local climate change, mudslides and swollen rivers are linked to the destruction of the rainforest.
