A torch as a light source
A demonstration of how a source of light is required to see objects in the dark. The presenter shines a torch around a dark room and sees shiny and white objects. The presenter also shows Boffin the cat's eyes shining in the dark. She then turns the torch off and we cannot see anything - a source of light is required to see in the dark. The presenter goes on to explain that Boffin's eyes do not actually glow in the dark and that they simply reflecting the light from the torch.
