Why did the Romans build walls?
Hadrian's Wall and the Antonine Wall are more than just walls. They are defensive structures with a series of forts along them, built when it was thought that the Roman invasion of Caledonia was costing too much. The walls contained stones with Latin inscriptions telling us who built them.
