As the chimes of Big Ben strike 8.00pm, Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson speaks from 10 Downing Street to lead the tributes to Winston Churchill. In summarising Churchill's military record and political career, Wilson concludes: 'The words and deeds of Winston Churchill will form part of the rich heritage of our nation and for our times for as long as history comes to be written and to be read.' The Prime Minister is followed by Sir Alec Douglas-Home, leader of the Conservative Party, and the Rt Hon Jo Grimond, leader of the Liberal Party. The tributes conclude with Churchill's former colleague, ex-Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. (1965)
