The Suri people of Ethiopia
The Suri people of Ethiopia are semi-nomadic cattle herders. They live in villages, moving only to find better grazing for their cattle. There are distinct seasons and rainfall is unreliable so drought and famine can occur. They have a cattle-centred culture, where wealth is measured by the number of animals owned. The animals are not eaten, but used for milk and blood. The practice of lip plates being worn by married women is threatened through external influences on the society.
