George Orwell’s connection with Jura and the Gulf of Corryvreckan

George Orwell escaped the bustle of City life to find peace and tranquillity on Jura. It was there in 1946 he wrote the classic novel on oppression – 1984. While on Jura he used to take regular fishing trips into the Gulf of Corryvreckan with his adopted son. During one trip his boat capsized in the tempestuous waters and both father and Son nearly drowned. Dougie went to meet Richard Blair at his holiday home to find out more about his father and their adventure in the waters of the Corryvreckan.
