Child Safety, Driving Test and a Wild Challenge.
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
Worrying new figures for parents across Leicestershire and Rutland have been published this morning. A charity has found that youngsters across the region are much more likely to be hit by a car or suffer a serious burn between the hours of 3 and 7 o clock in the afternoon. The Child Accident Prevention Trust says that nearly half of all road accidents involving children in the East Midlands occur during those hours. And it warns that the danger continues at home as well, with children twice as likely to suffer a burn during those times.Today is the 80th anniversary of the driving test - it became compulsory in the UK on June the 1st 1935. The first test cost just 7 shillings and 6 pence, and lasted just half an hour. Conditions on the roads have changed enormously in that time, and some motorists say the test has struggled to keep up. The Wildlife Trust is challenging you to do something wild every day this month. It's part of a drive to get more of us out and about, making the most of the nature around us. You could walk all the way up Beacon Hill, or do some birdspotting at Watermead Park, or go for a paddle at Rutland Water. Or you could just follow a bumble bee and see where it takes you!
