A former teacher from Leicester has told 大象传媒 Radio Leicester that she, and other members of staff, quit their jobs because the management of the school wanted it to become an academy .Rushey Mead School in the Belgrave area is one of the City's most successful schools- having been judged as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted since 2007. But last year, despite strong opposition from Leicester City Council and teaching unions, governors voted in favour of converting to an academy- meaning it would have a lot more freedom from the local authority. Since then though, plans haven't materialised and Rushey Mead remains in the control of the City Council. The suggestion alone however was enough for Tina Bali to hand in her resignation in December. Liberal Democrat leader, Charles Kennedy. He was 55 and died at his home in the Scottish Highlands yesterday. The cause of his death has yet to be confirmed, but is not believed to be suspicious. Mr Kennedy's family say they're "devastated" at his loss. As preparations are being made to mark the 70th anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan day) later this year, the son of a former Far East Prisoner of War is hoping to make contact with other relatives of men in the Leicestershire regiment - who were captured during the conflict Ken Hewitt's father John was in the 1st Battalion fighting for the British Army in the Malaya Campaign, when he was caught and imprisoned. He spent 3 and a half years in captivity and was one of thousands forced to work on the infamous Burma Railway. He never spoke of this experiences, but his son Ken has spent five years researching the fate of his dad, and nearly a thousand others with a similar story.
