Legal Highs, Housing & Auf Wiedersehen Pet

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

Legal highs have often been in the news over the last few years. But now a new campaign across Leicestershire and Rutland is warning of the dangers of these substances, particularly for young people who think they are a safer way to unwind. All this week, the Criminal Justice Substance Misuse Service will be promoting things like acupuncture and yoga as an alternative.
Also, one million homes by the end of this Parliament. That's the figure housing minister Brandon Lewis has said would mean success for the government, as they commit to an overall figure for the first time. But that target is in stark contrast to new figures out this morning that show house-building in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has significantly failed to keep up with demand. The National Housing Federation claims that over a four-year period, there was a shortfall of more than 4-thousand new homes compared to the number actually needed.
And, readers of the Radio Times have voted Auf Wiedersehen Pet as the greatest ITV programme ever, in a poll to mark the 60th anniversary of the channel. The show told the story of a group of Geordie builders in Germany. But, surprisingly, many of the scenes were filmed right here in the East Midlands.
