Golf, Parking & Pumpkins

Monica Winfield sits in alongside Jim to start your day with the latest news and updates.

Members of one of Leicester's oldest golf courses are preparing to say goodbye before it shuts forever this weekend. Western Park Golf Club is one of the city's two council-run courses, but earlier this year it was decided that it had to close - because it was too expensive to keep running. Leicester City Council says it costs it 拢123,000 to subsidise Western Park, which is twice as much as Humberstone Heights - the other council-ran course. Members claimed those figures were inaccurate, but the council said that - in the current financial climate - it was no longer viable. It means that this Saturday players will tee off for the very last time.
Also, a plan which would see carers exempted from hospital car parking charges in England will be debated in Parliament today. An MP is pushing for a new law allowing many of those making regular and lengthy hospital visits - including people receiving Carers' Allowance - to park for free.
And, as it is Halloween over the weekend, Jim, Monica, Martin & Nisha have been carving pumpkins. The best one was decided by a Facebook vote. Hear how they got on.
