Are vulnerable children across Leicester still be being failed by the city council? According to a new report seen by 大象传媒 Radio Leicester, parts of the Children and Young People's Service are being branded "stubbornly inadequate". That worrying verdict comes not from some independent inspection body but from the council's own senior management. And those comments come nine months after the troubled Children's and Young People's Service was heavily criticised by Ofsted. It resulted in both the councillor and senior officer in charge being stripped of their roles and spurred City Mayor Peter Soulsby to take matters into his own hands with a guarantee things would improve. However, this latest report by the council's own senior managers says some aspects of the service - manned by social workers supporting vulnerable families - are still underperforming.
Also, parents parking outside a popular school are proving unpopular with bus passengers who are blaming them for a change to their favourite route. It's being suggested that the Number 31 bus serving parts of Oadby is having to be redirected because its path passing Manor High School and Brookside Primary is persistently blocked by parents parking while dropping off pupils. And one passenger has told 大象传媒 Radio Leicester she's furious. 74-year old Sylvia says she's been told by bus company Arriva that it's having to rethink the route of the Number 31 to avoid the consistent congestion. Sylvia relies on the service - so she's none too please that its re-arranged route will mean she'll have further to walk to catch her bus.
