Why are footballers' teeth so bad?
Money, mansions and fame. It appears that footballers have it all, including tooth decay.
A study of players at clubs including Manchester United, West Ham and Southampton has found that almost 40% of them have active tooth decay.
Professor Ian Needleman from University College London Eastman Dental Institute conducted the study and said that a "lack of awareness in sport" and "frequency of acidic and sugary drinks" contribute towards poor oral health.
He added that this could even affect the performance of the players.
"If you've got infections in your mouth it's going to cause inflamation in the rest of your body which could have a knock-on impact on how you train and perform".
