A New Surgery, Sarah Palin & Postbox Spotting
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
People living in one part of Leicestershire say they're being seriously let down by the NHS for promising, but failing to provide, a new GP service for the area. Back in 2010, Braunstone Town Council began working with health services to fill a newly built community centre in Thorpe Astley with a doctors surgery. But despite the construction of two purpose built clinical rooms for use by GP's, five years on they remain empty. It means that people living nearby face travelling to Braunstone Town or Leicester Forest East to get seen by a doctor or a nurse.
Also, the former vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, is back on the American political scene. At a campaign rally in Iowa, she's come out in support of Donald Trump in the race for the White House. Sarah Palin is a figure who divides opinion in American politics. The former Governor of Alaska now stars in her own reality TV show. To her supporters, she's an influential conservative voice within the Republican party. But critics still remember her gaffes from the 2008 campaign when she ran for vice-president. This time round, Sarah Palin says she's "proud" to endorse Donald Trump for the top job.
And, twitchers spot swallows; trainspotters list locomotives. But there is another group of enthusiasts, with a passion for postboxes. For forty years, a group has collated a database of the iconic red post boxes up and down the country. Their work was nearly signed, sealed and delivered until Royal Mail suprised them.
Also in the show, the latest on Lord Janner, and we hear from the Leicestershire MP who says he fears reports of historic claims of child abuse here and beyond may just be the tip of the iceberg. A disputed penalty means Leicester City a Spurs meet again in their FA Cup Replay tonight, we look ahead. And, new information is constantly being released about how much exercise you should be doing. But a new study by the University of Leicester suggests less could actually be more! They've found that short, intense bursts of activity may be much more effective at reducing the risks of type 2 diabetes than longer forms of exercise. Well to put this theory to the test, we've decided to have a go! And of course when we say "we", we mean Helen McCarthy...
