Glenfield, Cycling & The Twilight Games
Jonathan Lampon sits in alongside Jo to start your day with the latest news and updates.
Senior Directors at NHS England have tried to reassure people in Leicester and Leicestershire that no final decisions have been taken over the future of children's heart surgery at Glenfield hospital. They took questions from the Health and Wellbeing Board and public at a meeting at City Hall yesterday. Around 30 members of the public turned up, as Will Huxter from NHS England explained more about the reasons for the decision to transfer paediatric cardiac surgery to other centres.
Also, Leicester's economy is being boosted by millions all thanks to cycling. That's according to the sport's governing body. British Cycling says its helped to grow the number of commuting cyclists in Leicester to almost 9000 people. And that, it says, has helped to save more than 拢3.5million in health care costs.
Olympic fever continues with more medals being won by Team GB every day! But whilst British athletes rack up the medals in Rio, residents in a number of car homes across Leicestershire and Rutland have been celebrating with their own version of the Olympics. The so-called 'Twilight Games' has been developed by Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, and features specially adapted games assisting with participants co-ordination, concentration and mobility. We sent our very own Olympian - Bridget Blair- to find out more.
