Recycling, Golf Clubs & The Sporting Capital

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

Are you guilty of "co-mingling"? That's the term used when we mix up things that can't be recycled with things that can. A 大象传媒 Breakfast Freedom of Infomation request has found that around 3% of our recycling has to be rejected. But in Leicester and Leicestershire that represents nearly 3000 tonnes of waste! Across the country 97% of that rejected recycling is incinerated or dumped in landfill and it seems it's a growing problem the amount of waste being rejected for recycling has risen by 84% over the past four years. We take your calls on this.

Also, a drive to collect unwanted golf clubs to send them to Africa has been a huge hit- according to organisers. Rutland County Golf Club has for the last few weeks been on the hunt for unwanted golf equipment to ship overseas to help young caddies and players who can't afford their own. Well since then, they've had a massive response. 大象传媒 Radio Leicester's Dale Neal is out in Rutland this morning.

And, Leicester has beaten Manchester, Liverpool and even London to become the UK's greatest sporting city for 2016. According to research from the University of Bath, our city was ranked number 1 out of 49 other places. It was based on 12 factors such as value for money, success, history and choice. It's Leicestershire's appetite for sport outside of the King Power Stadium and Welford Road that have helped us top this list.
