Why do we crave fried food?
Every now and again we all crave fried foods 鈥 but why do we have the desire to indulge in a fried breakfast or traditional chippy tea?
Professor Barry Smith from the Centre of the Studies for the Senses at the University of London said: 鈥淥ur ancestors had to have enough fat to survive, but they would have to store it up and may not have it often. Fat is now readily available but our system doesn鈥檛 know that.鈥
He says the brain desires fat because it contains large energy sources that keep the body functioning - but the deep fried foods also affects our senses.
鈥淲hen you are frying foods, you are adding flavours, the smell of chips is fantastic and it locks us on to the idea that this is something that is incredibly flavoursome,鈥 added Professor Smith.
