Cancelled op patient 'supportive' of doctor strike
Hospitals in England are beginning to make contingency plans for a series of unprecedented five-day strikes by junior doctors in September.
Members of the British Medical Association voted in favour of industrial action in opposition to the introduction of a new working contract which would introduce 'seven-day services'.
Peter Deeley was due to have an intestinal operation during the planned action but expects it will be cancelled. He told 5 live Daily’s Peter Allen that he remains ‘fully supportive of the doctors and the nurses’.
The industrial action will affect all forms of care, and similar walkouts are planned each month for the rest of the year.
