Air China criticised for 'race-row’ travel advice
Air China’s in-flight magazine has warned visitors to London that "precautions" should be taken when visiting areas in London mainly populated by "Indians, Pakistanis and black people".
Labour MP for South Ealing, Virendra Sharma said: “This is a very offensive statement, I wrote to the ambassador to put pressure on Air China to withdraw it.”
“It creates fear in the minds of visitors who may have come across a black or Asian face for the first time in their life. Identifying a community tarnishes everyone in that it as – in this case – criminal or threatening,” Virenda added.
Air China have since issued a statement, saying: “‘Wings of China’ published in the September some inappropriate description in its travel safety tips. After discovering this problem, Air China has immediately taken down this magazine from all its flights.”
