5 live has gone Back to School to look at the choices available to pupils in England and the benefits and pitfalls of selective education - as the government considers new programme of grammar schools.
It comes as a 大象传媒 investigation has found that fewer than half of England's grammar schools gives any priority to children from poorer backgrounds in their admission policies.
In Lincolnshire, Carre鈥檚 Grammar School and St George's Academy hold some classes together. Ellie, who goes to the grammar, and Sam, who鈥檚 at the academy, had a chat about how their schools compare.
鈥淭he standards of teaching are just as good, and environments are very similar,鈥 says Ellie. But Sam鈥檚 happy with his choice: 鈥淚 really enjoy coming to class, I get to do English and maths, as well as subjects like drama 鈥 I am happy with it.鈥
