Meanwhile, some in the Republican Party have been openly talking about invoking a little-known article of the US constitution that is designed to seek the removal of a president from power because of 'incapacity'. It comes amid concerns about what many have described as erratic behaviour from the president in recent days. Philip Stephens, from the Financial Times, tells us more.
Just a few weeks ago he was the outsider with little hope of reaching the second round of voting, but now the former French finance minister Emmanuel Macron is the poster-boy of the centre-left, packing in the crowds and powering up the polls to become the next president.
