QPR match programmes 'kept me sane' in Vietnam War
Two QPR fans have told ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live about their unlikely friendship, the US soldier fighting in the Vietnam War and the 11-year-old boy in Slough, exchanged Queens Park Rangers match programmes from 1969.
Nils Guy was 22 years-old when he was called up for military service with orders overseas in Vietnam.
He had emigrated to the US from Surrey.
When on active duty, he wrote a letter which was published in the QPR match day programme, asking if anyone would be interested in sending him clippings on how his club was doing.
11-year-old John Wild responded to the request and started to send Nils the latest QPR updates.
Speaking to Adrian Chiles, Nils explained how the Rangers programmes ‘kept him sane’.
This clip is originally from Chiles on Friday on 24 August 2018.
