The State Hospital at Carstairs
The State Hospital at Carstairs houses some of Scotland鈥檚 most serious and violent offenders. It also is where Kyle Gibbon has been for almost a decade. Autistic and with learning disabilities he was sent to the institution despite having committed no crime. His mum Tracey claims he has been abused, unfairly punished, sedated and segregated.
Carstairs say no complaints against them by the family have ever been upheld. Now The Nine can reveal the complaints process at the hospital is to be investigated after Tracey told the Public Services Ombudsman that her concerns were not being listened to. Meanwhile Kyle remains in the institution with little chance of being allowed to return home. Carole Erskine has this exclusive report.
