大象传媒 Belongings 16/07/2021

Bringing people together from our different cultures and communities in Suffolk.

Last week at the Euros 2020 final unfortunately for England, it didnt come home and the victory went to Italy after penalties. After this moment social media saw a torrent of racism toward the England players, specifically Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka. Amongst all of this many others showed solidarity to the players and thanked them for getting Englad to the final, something that had not been done in 50 years. Many of the themes talked about this week had lots of mention of home and belonging. Because this is the name of the show we wanted to explore what 'Belonging' meant to our local community. We hear from many community voices reflecting on this theme.
We play out an extended interview with Ruel Fox, a much celebrated Ipswich legend. Born in Whitton, and dedicated to the local team there, he has played for Norwich, Newcastle where he was called up for England, then went to play for Spurs, As part of a new country wide Photo Project BLACK SUFFOLK, 聽to be exhibited on the Corn Hill from 31st July, Communities Producer Cad Taylor, went up to Whitton to catch up with Ruel, to hear all about his football journey, heritage and his passion for progress and change.

The show dedicates the second half of the show to ethical and sustainable fashion. We hear form Haverhill's HAVE YOU podcast, with Kirsten Marshall (The Eco News), Saffron Owen (Sustainable Haverhill) and Millie Ball (Deputy MYP, West Suffolk) share their thoughts on sustainable fashion.

Lucie Halley-Trotter from EYO ethical fashion comes on to talk about her ambitions, her business and how we can work towards unified change in fashion.
