‘Teens really want to get on the platform despite not being the right age’
How far should social media platforms go to enforce age limits?
Savannah Badalich, Senior Director of Policy at social media platform Discord, spoke to 5 Live Breakfast ahead of our Teen23 summit.
The current minimum age to join Discord is 13, which is the same for others like TikTok and Instagram, but there are no checks on sign-up.
Savannah told Rick Edwards there are lots of teens wanting to join the platform who don’t meet the minimum age requirement.
She says Discord is “experimenting and testing” with age verification tools but believes it shouldn’t require increased regulation for social media firms to keep their users safe.
