Chair of the Scottish Police Federation David Threadgold has told 5 Live policing cannot have a 鈥榣ads club culture鈥� of the past as it moves forward.

As part of the 鈥楶olicing the UK鈥� series, Radio 5 Live鈥檚 Gordon Smart spoke to David Threadgold about the current state of policing in the UK.

David said if they are to change the culture in the police service, they need training and tools to allow people to do that.

He said there needs to be a change to the public鈥檚 perception that changes 鈥渙ur perception internally of police officers to get away from this lads club culture that has existed in the past鈥�.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 want that and policing doesn鈥檛 and cannot have that as it moves forward,鈥� he said.

Police Scotland's former chief constable Sir Iain Livingstone had said last year that the force is "institutionally racist and discriminatory".
