David Threadgold: Policing can’t have ‘lads club culture’ of the past as it moves forward.

Chair of the Scottish Police Federation David Threadgold has told 5 Live policing cannot have a ‘lads club culture’ of the past as it moves forward.

As part of the ‘Policing the UK’ series, Radio 5 Live’s Gordon Smart spoke to David Threadgold about the current state of policing in the UK.

David said if they are to change the culture in the police service, they need training and tools to allow people to do that.

He said there needs to be a change to the public’s perception that changes “our perception internally of police officers to get away from this lads club culture that has existed in the past”.

“I don’t want that and policing doesn’t and cannot have that as it moves forward,” he said.

Police Scotland's former chief constable Sir Iain Livingstone had said last year that the force is "institutionally racist and discriminatory".
