Stop and search: Sayce Holmes-Lewis on standing up for others 鈥榳ho don鈥檛 have a voice'

Sayce Holmes-Lewis is working with police to engage young people and communities after a negative stop and search experience he had in May 2020.

He is the co-founder and CEO of the charity Mentivity and member of the London Police Board.

Sayce has been a victim of multiple 鈥榰njust鈥 stop and searches, and said he understood how others felt.

He spoke to Drive's Clare McDonnell about this own experience, he said, 鈥淚 had to do something to stand up for other people who don鈥檛 often have a voice鈥.

鈥淭he way we鈥檙e stopping and searching young people and the way that we鈥檙e policing young people definitely needs to change, because it in turn fuels their outlook towards police and authority.

鈥淲e need to rewrite legislation to be able to protect young people, especially those between the ages of 11 and 18, because how are we protecting those young people through that legislation when things go wrong?鈥.
