England Roses Netballer: ‘Sometimes I didn’t have enough money to go to training’
England Roses netballer Halimat Adio is part of Beyond the Court, a netball scheme set up in partner with the London Metropolitan Police to help young girls in Croydon get involved with sport as a way of changing lives.
Halimat told 5 Live’s Clare McDonnell, “ They already had that sporty side behind them, it’s for [the girls] to know they can have a career in netball”.
The England netball defender explained the young players should be able to ‘resonate’ with her upbringing: “I didn’t come from a wealthy background and I went to a state school”.
“Sometimes I didn’t have enough money to go to training,” she added.
“It’s lovely that we can let them know it’s not just education [that helps], there’s sport too… this can keep them occupied from doing other things outside school,” she added.
