What impact does being the first response to a terrorist attack have?

Keith Malda was one of the first officers to arrive at the London Bridge attack in 2017, as well as the Borough Market attack nearly three months later.

Keith Malda is a PC and Police Federation rep in Brixton. Back in 2017, he was one of the first officers to arrive on the scene at the Westminster Bridge and Borough Market attacks.

But what's it really like to be the first response to a terror attack and what impact does that have on the officers?

Keith said that he was pleased to have been at the Westminster attack, so he could use his experience there for the Borough Market attack just over three months later.

"I remember hearing the call and thinking 'here we go again' but in a weird way, it always sounds strange when I say it out loud, I'm glad that I was at both of the attacks", he said.

Keith said officers make quick decisions but are also helped by the humanity of the public.

"They were magnificent, helping me out with first aid.

"I always say, in one moment, I saw the worst of humanity and the best of humanity all at the same time".
