In 1987, Liu Han-Chieh started selling ‘pearl milk tea’ at his tea house in Taiwan - after a spark of creativity from his colleague Lin Xiuhu.

Despite Liu’s father’s concern that he was damaging traditions, the drink’s popularity exploded and stars such as Michael Jordan and Jackie Chan visited Chun Shui Tang just to try it.
