How to check if your smoke alarm is out of date
Fire services are warning people to replace their smoke alarms every 10 years or risk being unprotected, meaning thousands of UK homes could be at risk without realising. The sensors degrade over time, so even if you hear the beep when you test it, it still might be less able to detect smoke. DIY expert Wayne Perrey tells us how to check if yours is out of date, and why to avoid putting them too close to the kitchen and bathroom. Plus, he explains how to check if you're entitled to free fire safety checks from your local rescue service.
