Why the 'Great British Insulation Scheme' has left some frustrated

DIY Expert Wayne Perrey investigates problems with the ‘Great British Insulation Scheme'

We've spoken a lot on the show recently about energy bills; this is after the price cap increased again, and figures showed that Brits are having to pick whether to eat or heat their homes. One long term but initially costly way of saving money is through insulating your home. Some estimates say it can save around £400 per year on energy bills.

But DIY Expert Wayne Perrey investigates why the ‘Great British Insulation Scheme’, offering grants towards the costs of insulating your home has left some consumers frustrated, failing to deliver on its promises.

In response to the film, EDF Energy, who was Stewart's supplier when he applied for the grant, said that it supports providing more home insulation but has proposed improvements to the Great British Insulation Scheme.

EDF said that it welcomes the recent Government consultation and says that it does not offer solid wall installation as it is not cost effective. It also said that problems with delays early in the scheme have since improved.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said that its £3.2 billion Warm Homes Plan will upgrade energy efficiency in up to 300,000 homes next year. It added that its planned boost to home energy standards is set to lift one million households out of fuel poverty.
