When you don't need antibiotics
There are fresh headlines claiming that the over-prescribing of antibiotics could result in one million more deaths in the UK ever year. This is due to the spread of microbial resistance, combined with the rise of superbugs.
With the long winter seeing cases of colds and flu spike, more patients have been seeking antibiotics to help speed up their recovery. Dr Punam explains why these drugs aren't likely to fix a cough any quicker and outlines the other health conditions that should not be treated with a course of antibiotics.
