
How to switch to digital banking
Lloyds Banking Group is shutting another 136 branches by March 2026, arguing that customers are increasingly going digital for day-to-day banking. Banks and building societies have closed 6,266 branches since 2015. The government also recently ruled out laws forcing businesses to take cash.
Finance expert Laura Pomfret explains how to make the switch to digital, including free online classes, and cashing in cheques using your phone camera - and how the 'pay via bank' option for websites such as JustEat and Ryanair might mean you're not entitled to a refund. Plus, after recent outages with Barclays, Lloyds and Halifax, what to do if your online bank goes down.
