Catriona Young

Catriona Young discovered - during her first week at the Royal Academy of Music - that by studying 3 instruments (singing, piano and viola), she was sure to master none of them. A performance career was out of the question so after graduating, she headed for Radio 3 who offered her a six-week contract as a secretary.

Next time she looked, she'd spent several decades at the 大象传媒 as studio manager, arts producer and Radio 4 newsreader, before finally returning to the network she regards as her spiritual home. In her spare time she joined the Holst Singers, dabbled in voice-overs, gave the odd piano lesson, read news for the British Forces Broadcasting Service and helped Sir Lennox Berkeley to organise his office.

She now lives in rural East Anglia, where she takes full advantage of the rich cultural life that flourishes along the Suffolk coast. She also provides enthusiastic support for her wine-merchant husband, whose futile attempts to educate her ignorant palate have inspired their latest venture - the No. 1 Suffolk Ladies' Wine Academy.
