Marina Ronald-Dussek
Marina's style is Modern Maximalist. She has the desire to live in a stylish, uncluttered space but the reality is a stylish, cluttered, chaotic space filled with wonderful people, mementoes, mess and laughter.
1. Who is your style hero?
Isabella Blow, Vivienne Westwood, David Bowie, Coco Chanel and Rene Gruau.
2. If you had an unlimited budget to spend on your home what improvements would you make?
I’d hire a full-time cleaner and decorator to try to de-clutter and tidy my home. Or a Picasso over the fireplace if the budget really was unlimited.
3. Would you have the room you created in your own home?
I've already repainted my front room and bathroom the same ‘Hague Blue’ as the living room in the programme. It's such a wonderful colour that changes throughout the day.
4. What did you learn from taking part in ‘Your Home In Their Hands’?
How hard TV production teams work! The hours are long, and the stress levels should be high, but everything is very calm and professional. I felt very privileged to be working with such hard-working, talented and passionate people.
5. What is your golden rule when it comes to interior design?
Be yourself. Try not to do the latest thing just because it's in fashion. Every interiors magazine has the typical glass box, with white walls - all beautiful but predictable and safe. Let your home be a reflection of you, not the reflection of an interior designer's idea of what you should live in.
6. What is your DIY tool that you just can’t live without?
I'm rubbish at DIY so it would be the phone numbers of great decorators, plumbers and chippies.
7. What is your biggest DIY achievement?
Our holiday let which started off as a damp storeroom. After a six-month build, with many potential disasters along the way (such as discovering the building wasn't underpinned) we now have a beautiful, three-storey space that everyone who stays there absolutely loves.
8. What’s your biggest DIY disaster?
Painting the living room blue, the dining room red and the hall yellow and not thinking about the space as a whole. It looked like a child's nursery.
