Nancy Mitford
Well-known as one of the Mitford Sisters.
When the plays begin Nancy has yet to become a successful writer. Indeed, Lees-Milne helps her find a job in a bookshop (which she of course turns into a literary salon!). But her sharp intellect and turn of phrase are already much in evidence, as is her current obsession with the Scott expedition.
