Angelique Kidjo

DJ Edu meets Angelique Kidjo, the world-renowned Benin-born singer, as she prepares to celebrate her 40-year career with a concert at London's Albert Hall.

Benin-born citizen of the world Angelique Kidjo has made a huge impact with her music and her support for humanitarian causes. She has won five Grammies, and she also campaigns tirelessly for a better life for people in Africa, and for an end to negative stereotyping of the continent.

In this edition of This Is Africa, she tells DJ Edu why she has chosen to celebrate 40 years in music by performing with Chineke!, Europe's first black and minority ethnic orchestra, in London's Albert Hall.

She also reveals how important it is to her to be a mother, and shares insights into her own personality, her upbringing and the experiences that have shaped her.

Angelique Kidjo has collaborated with a number of Afrobeats musicians including Yemi Alade, Burna Boy and Mr Eazi, and she describes how thrilled she is by the 'tsunami' of African talent, and her hope that these younger artists can follow in her footsteps and use their influence for the good of humanity.
