An Albatross

AN Albatross

'The revolutionary politics of dance', 'green pleasures' and 'the power of eating and sleeping all day' are just a few examples of what AN Albatross describe as their influences.

Formed in Philadelphia in 1999, the band comprise Edward B Gieda on vocals and percussion, Jake Lisowski on guitar, Jay Hudak on bass, Phillip Price on organ, Jeremy Gewertz on drums and Kat Paffett on synth.

With thrash metal as their musical weapon of choice the band, who have all been friends for ten years or so, boast beard-heavy members (naturally) and are not shy of shrieking. Loudly.

Their songs are brief, loud and to the point, rarely crossing the two minute mark. In keeping with their aim to pass through the 'jewelled gates of 'rock and roll valhalla', they have titles like 'I am the Laser Viking', 'Electric Suits and Cowboy Boots' and 'Eat Lighting, Shit Thunder'.

Armed with a mission to incite a rock and roll riot wherever they go, the six-piece spend most of their time on the road and have recently been on tour in the States with Melt Banana.

"Our philosophy on making music is that music should be experienced in a live setting," says Edward Gieda in a recent issue of online magazine Semtex. "I think that people can make a better connection when coming to a concert and taking part in the energy that exists between audience and band."

In between frenetic live shows, wigging out and non-stop touring, the band have released several EPs on various labels, their first in 2001 on the When Humans Attack label.

Their most recent release, a split 7" with XBXRX titled 'I Will Swim into The Lazer Eye' is out now on Gold Standard Labs.
