Biography
Huw joined Radio 1 at the age of 17, just before getting his A Level results. He got a B, B and a C. Some would call it fate, Huw didn't really know what was going on.
He had presented his own show on hospital radio, getting the independent Ankst to kindly sponsor his show with records and CDs, which he played to an audience expecting to hear Bryan Adams.
He answered phones on 大象传媒 Radio Cymru shows, listened to the radio, bought music and went to as many gigs as he could.
While a bit drunk and rapping the lyrics from a Welsh hip hoppers Tysion track late at night on the streets of Aberystwyth, he met Bethan Elfyn, who he went on to co-present the Radio 1 in Wales show with.
The show highlights the best underground and alternative releases of the day, and concentrates on the vibrant and eclectic music scene in Wales. It is broadcast every Thursday between 7.30 and 9PM.
Huw also presents OneMusic on Radio 1, broadcast every Tuesday between 11pm and 1am. The shows, which also broadcast on Wednesdays and Thursdays with Ras Kwame and Rob da Bank, concentrate on the finest new music and unpredictable emerging talent.
The best unsigned music of the week is played, the cream of the crop from new releases form all around the world, and weekly sessions recorded at the 大象传媒's world famous Maida Vale studios.
As well as depping for Zane Lowe and Steve Lamacq regularly on Radio 1, he presents three shows a week on C2 on 大象传媒 Radio Cymru, the Welsh language radio station, playing the best new music.
His first lanaguage is Welsh, and he lives in Cardiff, where he founded the Boobytrap label in 2000. He writes for the Welsh press regularly, and presents music shows on Welsh television.
He also DJs and comperes at gigs, clubs and festivals, bringing the noise wherever he goes, including the Radio 1 and main stage at the Reading Festival.
Huw has a beard, and waits for the day he gets to use Music Sounds Better With Huw on a regular basis.
