USAISAMONSTER in session
Tom Hohmann and Colin Matthews played in "hundreds of different bands" before turning their attention to USAISAMONSTER five years ago.
"It was the punkest name we could think of," explains Tom on the inspiration behind their name. "It's a statement of our times. We've grown more politically and we wanted to represent this in our music."
Formed in Boston and based in New York, the duo cite influences as diverse as the Incredible String Band and prog giants Rush.
Are they flying the flag for new prog rock?
"We're into metal, folk, aboriginal music, pyschedelia, hardcore and UK pop - our band is a combination of all these types of music." says Tom.
"The ultimate aim of this band is to write interesting soulful music between the two of us. We've always set out to play real emotional music, anything that's raw or real."
The band released their first album, 'Citizens of The Universe' on Infrasound Records before signing to Load Records for the follow up 'Tasheyana Compost'.
They've just released their new 13 track album 'Wohaw,' which has been described as a record that 'shakes furiously and lies down gently - and uses all means necessary in the rock arsenal...from flat-lined acoustica to frothing rockulism.'
Huw says: "Sometimes it seems perfectly sane to get totally insane bands in for sessions. Genres like spazz-core have yet to take the world by storm, but if it had, USAISAMONSTER would have their CDs for sale in supermarkets."
USAISAMONSTER have played with Lightening Bolt, Friends Friends and are currently finishing up their UK tour, supported by Riotmen.
