Every time I sing any of these lullaby songs, it’s like going back to Brazil. I remember the first three years of my life being the safest and probably the happiest because I’d got both my Dad and Mum - I had no worries at all. I’d like to pass this to my children so every night I sing them Brazilian songs. Most of the time it gets them to sleep, especially the one about the street and the embedded precious stones. Now that’s a magical one.

The song says, ‘If this street were mine, I would embed it with precious stones so that my love could walk on it. In this street there’s a forest and in that forest there’s an angel who has stolen my heart away.’

That’s beautiful and my children love it. I even sang it to them both while they were still in my belly. For me it has a magical power. No sooner have I started than the baby drops off to sleep.
