Helen's Riposte
by JustJennyDarling
Helen and Kate's argument about motherhood inspired this poetic offering, from the Fantasy Archers topic of .
Within this shrine she lay, this was her bed
and here her clothes, her fripperies, she said
she had to go. I knew not why, but will replace
her with a tiny child, for my embrace.
See, cousin Kate, I'm not like you
detached from child, away you flew
to Afric's shore, there to bear two more
one you have left behind again - I do deplore
I will abide, this child, in vitro yet
will be my joy and pride, my heart is set.
***
Oh Helen, desist, a child is for life
and not just for Christmas, wait until a wife
to man who'll love you, and you love him too
just like folk in Ambridge are wont to do.
Annette has made a quick escape, methinks
wrest from the stalker, fresher air she drinks.
Had she remained, she in a cupboard chained
devoid of life and independence, and restrained.
